Top 10 Newborn Photos of 2020 | Virginia Beach Newborn Photography

One of my favorite things to do at the beginning of a new year is to look back at the previous year and reflect on all the amazing families who chose Kimberlin Gray Photography to capture their precious memories! 2020 was a tough year. Our business was closed for 6 weeks during the pandemic lockdown and when we opened back up, there were many babies who had “missed out” on their traditional 7-14 day old newborn sessions. I wrote a blog post about my experiences with older newborns called, “How old is “too old” for a Newborn Photography session?” I found that even 4-8 week old babies can have beautiful newborn sessions and even sleep and can curl up a bit!

That said, I am very grateful to all of the families who trusted me to safely capture their babies and their families during these unbelievably difficult months. I am blessed to have a thriving business even now!

So, as I went back through my archives of 2020 newborns, I wanted to share a few standout images that I feel were truly some of my best work this year. EVERY baby is gorgeous and EVERY session has awesome images. But I chose these particular images because I felt they were a bit different, a bit more unique, or just the perfect lighting/color combo/pose at the perfect moment! Enjoy some of my favorite newborn photos of 2020!

Everybody loves a baby smile and this little guy gave the biggest smile of 2020!!

It’s always fun when parents bring something special to them to photograph with their baby. This drum set was perfection!

This one is one of my favorites for a couple reasons. First, the colors are just dreamy and this baby girl’s chubby cheeks complete the look so well! It’s simple, yet beautiful and that’s why it’s a fave!

Sometimes, siblings present a challenge to photograph together, but not this group! They were so excited to get to hold and pose with their new baby sister. Add to that my goofy antics and we were able to capture those perfect smiles! What a treasure!

Military families make up nearly half of all my clients and I love to incorporate little touches of their uniforms during sessions when possible. This sweet girl was wide awake, but content when we posed her with her Mommy & Daddy’s US Navy covers!

What is cuter - the little pink bear set or the butterflies surrounding her? I can’t decide, but this is one of my favorite digital backdrops and this cutie posed so adorably for me to create this!

Simple, but adorable, right? Those overalls, the baby back rolls, the sweet sleepy lips…I just can’t take it!

When this family said they wanted a realistic elephant image for their jungle themed nursery, I was so excited to create something new and different for them! The results are exactly as I wanted and I’m so excited with the way it turned out!

This is another simple one, but a pose I’m increasingly more excited about. It’s so sweet and cozy looking with those little hands next to her cheek. She just looks so peaceful and perfect, doesn’t she?

Did you say “Awwwww!”??? I do every time I see this photo…and I took it! This sweet girl was 2 months old when she came in for her post-COVID lockdown session and when she gave me this huge smile and wide eyes, I melted!!

Yes, this is #11 and I said Top 10. But there was no way I could leave it out. I just love everything about this and the big brother’s round cheeks and sweet expression make this my bonus favorite image of 2020.
